Hi everyone,
First i have to say that poem from Tina is wonderful. Hope the holidays went well. I know they must have been difficult without Nicholas and Lamont's mom...my heart goes out to all of you. Miss u all so much! We are falling back into our schedules again..back to school for the kids. I ran into a nurse the other day (har name slipped from my mind...cute blonde...Jill maybe) from Lucille while i was at the mall and she said she had seen u recently. It is my turn to see you...not this weekend, but maybe the next i can come for a visit.
Lots of love,
Theresa

Just want to thank both of you for such a wonderful night. Spencer and his buddy had a ball. I wish you could have seen their faces when Thunder came in! It was a pleasure to meet you - your strength is a great inspiration to me. The pictures of Nicolas are absolutely beautiful, his angelic little face makes me smile. I regret not meeting him, but am learning all about what a wonder he was on your website. Thank you again for making my son smile!

A Birthday In Heaven
© 2005 Written by Kris Smith
I heard you crying yesterday
And felt your heart-sent love
So Iím sending you this message
Now, from Heaven up above.
Youíre wondering if I'll celebrate
My birthday (way up here)
I know youíre missing me today
I feel your essence near.
God planned a special day for me
He told me with a wink
Heíd ordered me a special cake
(Itís Angel food, I think)
Iím getting lots of hugs from God
Heís really good at that
And every time that I walk by
He gives my head a pat
Balloons will fill the streets for me
They float up through the clouds
And we have lots of clowns up here
That make us laugh out loud
There is a birthday carousel
Jeweled horses ride the wind
With music playing oh so sweet
The magic never ends
I've made so many friends, you see
We laugh and play and sing
We ride our bikes and play jump rope
And sleep in Angelís wings
Weíll have our cake and ice cream
And open gifts, surprise!
But we donít blow out our candles here
Instead, they light the skies

Hi Sheila and Lamont- I think of you both often and also our little Nikko, especially lately. I know you are approaching his birthday and I will be thinking and praying for you that day and all the days around it. I wanted to tell you - I don't know if you remember Sheila - one time when Nicholas was in the hospital - you gave me a shirt of his and 2 jammies. The shirt is white with plaid blues/red, the jammies - mickey mouse and power rangers, that he had outgrown (with much protesting on his part because he obviously still liked the jammies). Well - the other night I was looking for a shirt for Jarrett to wear to something special and noticed Nicholas shirt in his closet and wondered what size it was. Well, it ended up being a size 5 - Jarrett's technically a 4 but close enough. Well, he wore it that night and it was very special to me to see him in it. The next day he was running around saying "you want a piece of me." Couldn't help but think Jarrett was still carrying around a little "piece" of Nikko. Anyway - missing you - missing him. Love to you all.

SuuuuuuuuuperNicholas,
Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday! It's your birthday, it's one day of many that is your day, and this is a special day for a superhero, and more importanly an ANGEL to many; Especially me.
Spoke to your dad yesterday, and he shared some exciting things that will be going on at half time of the Golden State Warriors Game to celebrate your birth, impact you have and will continue to have for us and so many that are blessed to be touched by your foundation.
So...are you taking care of grandmom by showing her around heaven? I had wonderful conversation with my children about heaven, and as I am sure you are aware...you provided a lot of direction for the importance of your impact here on earth, but more importantly your life in heaven. Thank you for that.
I love you, again celebrate your birth, and am singing loud (well as loud as my voice can sing) HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPERNICHOLAS.
Your cousin,
Charles

Dear Lamont and Sheila,
THANK YOU SO MUCH for inviting us to the Warriors game celebrating Nicholas' 8th B-day in the suite. It was a great time reuniting KJ with Kaeli---a far different setting than Ronald McDonald House days. :) Nicholas' spirit and love was felt all around---from your family, to your friends to the families. I think he would have done it no other way, than with his friends and his favorite basketball team. KJ, Caitlin and esp. Zach had a wonderful time. (Don't worry, Sheila, Zach WILL warm up to you!) You impressed me, Lamont, when you recognized he wore Nicholas' hand-me-down! The Foundation does wonderful things to families, and you certainly carried on our sweet boy's spirit to touch more families than you'll ever know. We love you.---The Estudillo's (Ken, Joy, KJ, Caitlin and Zach)

Hey Lamont and Sheila,
Celebrating Nicholas' birthday at the game last night was so special to us all. We were so happy to experience one of Nicholas' joys...a night in Suite C12 watching his favorite team. We could picture Nicholas with us there running around and having fun. We thank you both so much for including us in such a special time. We felt like royalty in the suite....it was incredible. Kaeli and Seamus enjoyed themselves tremendously. Seamus was sure to ask me as we were leaving, "Hey mom, did you see that Nicholas' name was up on the scoreboard?" He too was well aware that this was a night to celebrate the one and only Nicholas Colby Gilbert. He is truly in our hearts forever and will always be a part of who we are.
Lot and lots of love, The Downey Family
P.S. Kaeli made sure to jump in on the buffalo wings, eating a total of twelve. "They were sooooooooooo good"

My family received tickets to the Warriors game from your fund. Unfortunately, my daughter became ill and we had to check into the hospital. So, we had to pass the tickets onto another family. She is currently undergoing treatment for Rhabdomyosarcoma. My family appreciates the kind gesture so much, thank you for offering such a fantastic opportunity to us and to other families that are going through the toughest of times. God bless your family and your foundation.

Hi Lamont-
Thank you so much for sharing your pictures and also for the special event on Tuesday at LPCH with Thunder and the cheerleader. I was in tears seeing how much you and Sheila (and everyone else that has met you and your family) love Nicholas and how you remember and pay tribute to him. Your family has a special place in my heart and I thank you for the experiences that you are able to provide for the patients. The memories, smiles, and fun times are expressed by our pts. and families that go to these events and they often ask when the next game is. They are able to take their mind off treatment and just be kids- what a miracle you and Sheila continue to provide.
Thank you

Dear Gilberts,
I just want to thank you for the wonderful opportunity you gave my family to see the Diney on Ice show on 3/8 in the fabulous luxury suite. Such a treat! Our daughter Teagan (4) had no idea of the event. It was a wonderful surprise to her. Teagan has been fighting JMML for almost a year and a half. She had a BMT 5/07 and relapsed 11/07. We left LPCH in 12/07 to go home and arranged hospice care for her. Well it is now March and we have her home and enjoying every nano second we have with her.
Thanks again for your wonderful philanthropic work. It give families like us a chance to experience these types of events that ultimately make lasting memories.
Sincerely,

Dear Sheila and Lamont,
Thank you so much for coming to 5 South and kicking off the Oakland Children's part of your "Let Children Be Children" campaign. The big smiles and looks of anticipation on their faces made it clear to all of us how successful this program is in reaching its goal of letting our children experience, even for a brief time, the joy of just "being a kid". We all know in our heads what it means to be a child facing the diagnosis of cancer, and what it means to be the parent of such a child, but to have an organization like yours that works every day to bring just a little bit of normalcy back into the lives of the kids we treat is a tremendous blessing. I know as Nicholas looks down on your work he must be extremely proud to have such a great mom and dad!
Sincerely,
Joe

What a fabulous day yesterday for the children on 5 South!! The children loved getting the backpacks. I know one little girl who wanted a DS Nintendo game for so long, she was extremely happy to actually get one of her own. Both of you have given so much to the children here at CHO. Many thanks to the Nicholas Colby Fund for sharing this past Saturday, April 12th a part of what the foundation does, withbstaff members who had taken care of Nicholas.
We were literally able to experience a "bigger arena" of Nicholas by experiencing something he loved so much.
We were all delighted to hear the up-date about the recent Basketball Clinic for Kids with cancer - knowing the kids who attended had so much fun! And so thrilled that the NBA featured a video from the clinic the following night during half-time.
It's so refreshing to hear about the Warriors being great role models with such big hearts.
The experience was another reminder of the impact little Nicholas had on so many people in his short life, and continues to have on hundreds and thousands - in ways we can not even begin to fathom.
Although, Nicholas was an adorable , very brave little child; he will always live on in my heart as a true Warrior, in the very best and most courageous way. It is no wonder that he reveled in being around so many other Warriors - from pint sized kids battling cancer to giant heroic basketball players!
Thank-You for your thoughtfulness, generosity, and making the world a better place.
Sheila and Lamont, may your lives be blessed a hundred-fold in every was possible with your commitment for the Nicholas Colby Fund.
With Love and Gratitude,
Leslie

Mom, I have a Mother's Day message for you...
A happy childhood? For sure. And no wonder - I had you for my mom!
And mom, God is taking good care of me. He teaches me lots of things and I'm glad that I'm the boy He liked me to be. Just know that I'm playing and having lots of fun being the boy that I like to be...a boy who has you as his mom.
Oh, and tell dad that I wished grandma Happy Mother's Day for him. We're taking a walk along the water. It's really pretty everywhere. Grandma is teaching me things too.
Remember, I'm playing and having fun everywhere in the Heavenly skies so when you listen you can hear me laughing - in Heaven laughter and happiness are forever.
Happy Mother's Day from your son, Nicholas.

Last week we were given tickets to the circus...my son has been really sick these last couple of months and he hasn't been able to go anywhere or be a normal four-year old and just play and be a kid. He was just released from UCSF after being in for six weeks after having brain surgery. It just felt really good to see him enjoy his self and be a kid again. We still have a long road ahead of us but its great to have foundations like these that can allow kids with cancer to still be able to be a kid and enjoy them self. So with all that being said me and my family just want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you so much. Our son Tomas was just diagnosed with ALL Leukemia about a month ago. When he was diagnosed it felt like our lives would never be normal again; and that for his birthday, August 16th, we would end up spending it at home or in a hospital, instead of the way we would have liked, with an outing and a huge party. Thanks to your foundation, we spent his birthday at the circus. This experience was not only something that provided Tomas with great joy, but also helped us, his parents, to see that he could be a normal kid. The experience brought tears to my eyes. We can't begin to tell you how much that day meant to us all. Thank you so very much.

By JANIE McCAULEY, AP Sports Writer Oct 2, 4:20 pm EDT
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)óWith the Oklahoma City Thunder now part of the NBA lineup, the Golden State Warriorsí mascot might be a goner. Thunder is his name.
Thunder has been part of this franchise for some 12 years and his likeness is featured on the teamís primary logo, though the team doesnít use that image much anymore.
Warriors team president Robert Rowell is willing to make the switch for the benefit of the other Thunder, formerly the Seattle SuperSonics. When the timingís right, that is.
"We're clearly going to do something to accommodate Oklahoma City and not have our mascot named Thunder," Rowell said. "For the sake of not making things confusing, weíre going to do something. We just have to figure out a good exit strategy."
He just might have one, leave Thunder in China during the team's upcoming trip to Asia.
"He might get lost in the crowd over in China," Rowell said. "There are 1.3 billion people there."
For about two years Golden State had been considering a rebranding of the club, Rowell said. So this may be the time to go forward with a new mascot after this season. The Warriors don't want to be without one this season.
"The other thing we were thinking is maybe we trade him to Oklahoma City for a mascot to be named later or something like that," Rowell cracked. "I know that Oklahoma City has already mentioned that their new mascot is in the works, so theyíre not going to have one when the season starts.
"We may trade Thunderís rights while he's in China, though we'd have to go through NBA China to get approval on that. He may not get a ticket back with us, I donít know. We havenít figured it out."
Thunder is rarely seen on merchandise aside from a few childrenís items, Rowell said. In fact, his name and true identity are kept secret. He is acrobatic, muscular and faceless, with glowing blue skin and shiny eyes, a lightning bolt coming out of his head. Heís been leaping off a trampoline during timeouts and jumping into sections of fans to say hello since 1997-98.
"Thunder doesnít comment," Rowell said. "Thunder's an outfit. Thunder doesn't get a vote. Heís never been quoted. Thunder is a persona."
Thunder also has an official bio:
- Name: Thunder.
- Height: Stands above the clouds.
- Weight: Lighter than air.
- First Appearance: June 19, 1997, during a sudden cloud burst.
- Birthplace: Upper Atmosphere University.
- Drafted By: Golden State Warriors, first round, 1997 mascot supplemental draft.
- How acquired: Recruited by a Warriors talent scout, via worldwide search.
- Miscellaneous: Full name is ThunderBolt. Parents are Brenda Bolt and Charles Charger.
Chris Mullin, Golden Stateís executive vice president of basketball operations, played his final season for the Warriors during 2000-01 when Thunder was around. But soon Thunder may be no more.
"Thatís show business," he said. "They should do (the trade) in midair off the trampoline."

I was fortunate enough to have the tickets to the Warriors game last night offered to me from the wonderful people at UCSF pediatric clinic where I have been being treated for Neuroblastoma. A close friend and my parents and I enjoyed the game against the team from Lithuania. I am a huge Warriors fan and love watching live basketball. My family and I have had a great deal of stress and frustration lately with treatments and insurance issues. Thanks to your kindhearted donation I was able to forget about cancer and all that I have been going through for a night to be with loved ones doing something I really enjoy. Thank you so much for your donation; it really meant a lot.
Sincerely,
Zach Swan

We fisrt want to say, we are very sorry for your lose. It's very sad that our little guys have to go through this stuff. Our Son Matthew, is fighting brain cancer right now and we understand a little of what you went through.
We want to thank you for the 49er tickets, we received from Stanford-Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Our little guy is at Stanford now, getting his 5th round of chemo.
We had a great time at the game. It was Matthew, his brother Michael, Matthew's friend Adrian and Matthew's Dad.
I hope you guys find time to reflect on all the good memories you have of Nicholas, it's one of things that can never be taken from us.
Thanks for all you guys do, for others like us.

SuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuperNicholas,
So what's going on champ? Today is Turkey day, as you are well aware of, and a day more importantly to Thank my...ok not just mine...but a wonderful angel who provided a piece of him to better us all. "Do you want a piece of me?"
So what do you think of your cousins. Stefan is doing very good in school, Natalia not only is getting straight A's, but has discovered basketball. What I mean by that is she would watch, play if others played, but not really interested. Now she has become an avid fan/player, and starting to really understand the game. This holiday weekend, we are going to go see your cousin Alex play at Loyola. Recently Natalia's rec team was asked to play in the competitive league, and your cousin scored 12pts w/4 rebounds. She has now been asked and what's to start playing competitive...along w/three teams have asked her to play competitive soccer...which she really dominates in.
Love ya, Thanks for watching, being an inspiration, and giving me piece of you to grasp onto.
Love,
Charles, Stefan, Natalia

Dear Lamont and Sheila,
on the way home from the Warrior game last night, little Haley says from the back seat, "that was my best day ever, I went to a basketball game....and I'm only 6". After the complications Shawn suffered after his heart transplant...to see him down there as honorary captain was the most beautiful experience for this mom.
I can't express how grateful I am for last night, for you care and concern over Shawn...and the love you expressed to all of us. It was the best experience.....we will never forget it.
Shawn loved it more than he even thought he would...he still has stars in his eyes....and thinks Sheila hung the stars and moon because she was into the video games!
we will think of you all often & keep you in our prayers.
Thank you again for giving Shawn a once in a lifetime experience....after so many months in the hospital.
with love,
Trista, Shawn, Haley....and the rest of those Stockwell's :)
