Walt Disney said, "You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality." Without support from individuals and organizations such as Albertsons / Safeway Foundation; CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer; and the Golden State Warriors, we would not be able to help children (and their families) have another opportunity to smile.
We believe we truly are making a difference – Helping Children Be Children® – and we are grateful for the support from so many of you.
Thank you and happy, Happy New Year!

Patients from Children's Hospital Oakland (October 16), Stanford - Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital (October 17) should have a fun time - opportunities to smile if even for a moment or two.
And later this month with the National Basketball Association (NBA) season kicking off, patients will begin to experience NBA games for our seventh consecutive year.

The Nicholas Colby Fund's Lamont Gilbert will be interviewing former NBA star, author, poet, and motivational speaker Adonal Foyle on June 21 at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center as part of the launch of a new family series called Authors & Athletes. Nicholas loved the Lafayette library so along with hospitals and speaking engagements we collaborate on efforts that are focused on children.
The foundation of the interview will be Adonal's new children book called Too Tall Foyle Finds His Game. "It is a charming story of a young child who is different from other boys his age...he is just too tall! Like all young boys, he wants to play sports, but he just can't find one that fits. He tries EVERYTHING. The kids tease him when he fails, so he gets sadder and sadder. Then one day his life changes forever. A new sport comes to his Caribbean island where being tall is a good thing to be. It's a tale of a boy struggling to find his place in the world, sometimes failing, but never giving up until he finds it."

This past week the Nicholas Colby Fund® was the benefactor of two more wonderdul touches of love. PG&E's Recruiting Department in San Francisco, CA and Safeway's Corporate Office in Pleasanton, CA, provided about 100 teddy bears and hundreds of toys, respectively.
The teddy bears and toys will be part of our backpack experience for newly diagnosed patients, and for our Patient Gift Giving Experience wherein patients will be able to select a toy for everyone of their siblings enabling them to give their siblings a gift when their siblings come visit them in the hospital. (The Patient Gift Giving Experience was created by the Nicholas Colby Fund so that patients can also feel the joy of giving.)
